Williams Design Studio
Add to itinerary
Paul and Beverley Williams started Williams Design Studio in 1974 and moved to downtown Bethany to build their art/craft studio in an Early Ontario General Store. The building had once been owned by a great, great uncle, Levi Stisson in the late 19th century but the original wooden store burned down in the Great Fire of Bethany, Nov. 1911. The store was rebuilt in 1912, and Paul and Beverley have restored it over the years keeping the old boomtown front, the butcher and grocer signs up top, adding the new old-style porch, and re-finishing the interior to keep the “ol’ timey” look.
In their workshop and display area you can see them working on sculptural leather masks, belts, and purses as well as designing and building brass and copper fountains and garden art. You can watch Beverley doing pyrography on hard shelled gourds.
In their Secret Garden, they have a dozen different water features with Paul’s sculpted fountains as well as real frogs, fish and delightful fairies hidden amongst the flowers. Ask for a special tour.
In the gallery you will find the work of other local artists including the photographic art of Walter and Peggy Cracknell, the Tima Jewellery Collection by Lucya Almeida, Sandy Cline’s soapstone carvings and Amberlea Williams lovely hand-quilted houses and hand puppets. These artists are part of the Annual Rolling Hills Studio Tour held on Mother’s Day weekend in May. Please stop by and visit us as you explore the lovely rolling hills in the Bethany area.
